Squirrel and I
Loves squirrels and trees
Hi there!
I’m Elle (for short Sherrelle Nelson), a London-based illustrator working across digital and traditional media. My work is rooted in observation, imagination and storytelling, with strong focus on expressive characters, colour, and atmosphere.
I work primarily with digital illustration, charcoal, ink, watercolours and acrylic paint and I enjoy exploring the relationship between colour, light, texture and brushwork. My illustrations often centre on themes of everyday moments, connections and storytelling, particularly for children and family-focused audiences.
Over the years, I developed health conditions which led me to self teach myself digital art in January 2020. I developed my digital illustration practice alongside traditional techniques supported by art training at Ode2Art Academy. My work combines photo reference with imagination interpretation, allowing me to create warm, narrative-led images.
I am inspired by artists such as Van Gogh, J.M.W Turner, John Singer Sargent, particularly their use of colour, light and painterly mark-making.
Alongside illustration, I enjoy writing children’s stories, storyboarding and exploring craft-based work. I aim to create artwork that feels thoughtful, joyful and emotionally engaging.
